Yogi Tea For the Fall

This recipe is based on the original tea recipe by Yogi Bhajan. Passed on to me by my mentor KP Khalsa. I have made a few tweaks and modifications to suit my cliental. I do encourage everyone play with the ratios and adjust to their preferences. I also suggest you consider making large batches at a time and drinking daily.

Ingredients

  • For each cup (8 oz.):
    • 10 oz. water
    • 3 whole cloves
    • 4 whole green cardamom pods
    • 6 whole black peppercorns
    • 1/2 stick cinnamon
    • Optional: 1-3 slice of fresh ginger root
    • 1/4 tsp. black or rooibos
    • 1/2 cup milk of choice
    • Honey to taste

      Optional
    • 1 bay leaf
    • 1 tsp dried orange peel
    • Fresh Nutmeg
    • 1 tsp Lemon Grass
    • Star Anise

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Spices:

    • For convenience, prepare at least 4 cups at one time.
    • In a pot, add 10 oz. of water for each cup of tea you are making
    • Add the cloves, cardamom pods, black peppercorns, cinnamon, ginger root (and optional spices should you be including those)
  2. Boil:

    • Bring the mixture to a boil and then reduce to a simmer for 20-30 minutes.
    • Liquid should reduce by half
  3. Add Tea:

    • Bring the tea back up to a boil and add 1/4 tsp. of black or rooibos tea.
    • Let it sit for 1-2 minutes.
  4. Finish:

    • Add 1/2 cup of milk and reheat the mixture.
